Reflections on Decolonization and Journalism in Malta

This chapter explores Malta's historical journey post-decolonization from the 1960s to the early 2000s, addressing early hopes for democracy and the impacts of left-wing governance. It highlights the challenges journalists faced in a small, tightly-knit society, including societal pressures and threats as they pursued truth amidst a culture of fear. Personal stories of loss and transformation, especially after a tragic assassination in 2017, underscore the emotional toll of journalism and the quest for identity in a changing landscape.
