Getting Back to Metabolic Homeostasis With Insulin Infusions
When we think of treating HHS, we are not really focused on the gap and insulin falls to the back of our mind. So aside from making the number look better, it actually is what allows the body to start using that extra insulin. How much fluid we give is not so much dependent on the age of the patient and their frailty, it's how much they can tolerate. It's really a case-by-case basis.
