The Effects of Therapy on the Brain
When the brain is damaged it releases a protein called growth and differentiation factor 10 or gdf-10 Which encourages healthy and partially damaged neurons to do what's called axonal sprouting. People who are more adept at using both sides of their brain have a better recovery rate because neural information that allows them to move and speak tends to be spread out across both hemispheres. It's an entirely different process than what happens during normal development and learning.
