There's two kinds of evidence for that. One is you can look at cases where we have competing, say, hunter-gatherer groups. The other kind of evidence comes from genetic FST values. And the cultural FSTs are quite large, so it's supportive of cultural evolution. Now, we may find out in the future that ancient DNA may teach us that in the past, the genetic FSTs were bigger.
