The Doctrine of the Dissident Clause

Calvin's view is that Jesus descended to hell by suffering the pains of hell on the cross for us. The dissent was replaced, first of all, by Calvin's view which is not so much Christ descending to hell as it is hell ascending to Christ on the cross. A second view that replaces the dissent is more acceptable in terms of possible explanations, but I do not regard it as a sufficient explanation. So also the Erasmus, Jacob, Perkins, Usher view really settles in the Westminster confession and therefore the Savoy declaration.
