The History of Juneteenth in America
Juneteenth is now it's a national holiday. It wasn't always a national holiday, but it overall commemorates the freedom of enslaved Black people in America. In 1865, you have this town, Galveston, Texas, that the slaves didn't know they were free. So on June 19th, some union troops went to Galveston to proclaim the freedom of these enslaved people.
