The stocks that you want to have in your portfolio are companies that exhibit extreme optionality. Amazon is a great example and many ironically, perhaps, of the best stocks of our time. The Fool's advice for investors buying into certain stocks over certain others: Go with the option that opens up yet more options.

The pessimist believes that setbacks become one’s identity. The optimist believes something else.
