christian smith says religious channelling is a very powerful way to keep your kids in a particular religion. He defines this as subtly nudging, introducing or steering children in the right religious directions. The most important of these influences is channelling your child toward a non family adult in a religious congregation who knows the child well and can talk on serious topics beyond superficial chit chat. Parents who channel effectively know how to encourage the development of such relationships for their children.
