Junkers Blues: The First Rock and Roll Record

Junkers Blues was written by a New Orleans piano player, sometime in the 1920s. Champion Jack Dupree recorded it in 1940 and claims songwriting credits. Fat Stomeno's version is often considered to be the first rock and roll record. By 1949 Antoine Domino had become a minor celebrity among black music fans. More for his piano playing than for his singing. The biggest musician in New Orleans at the time was Dave Bartholomew. He suggested that Imperial Records sign Domino after he sang on stage himself.
