Dubai's top developer Muhammad Al-Abar wanted to build the world's tallest building. He was inspired by Chinese architect Adrian, who designed Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai. The wind is the critical factor for designing a super tall tower as it can push or pull on the tower and make it oscillate. In 2006 2,500 migrant workers rioted over cramped housing and went on strike. They were sold apartments before work had begun - but they only got one per person. A new skyscraper will be built at Dubai International Airport next year.
