The Bread Riots of the 18th Century in Cumberland
Women in mayport organized. when one farmer said he did not care what the government said about price controls, there was a riot. The example of mayport soon spread to other parts of the country. These riots were led by housewives who had filled the front lines and did much of the fighting. Although the miners of cumberland were also active in supporting wife's efforts,. Both as added bodies strengthening the crowds, but also through the miners association in other working class institutions.
