Maximus's Christology in a Nutshell
Maximus's Christology in a nutshell is that is there is one person is Christ, he has two essences. They are not real in any other way except as him. Just like your body and soul aren't real and aren't even really one except as you. And the difference would be here that while body and soul kind of are closer to each other on the scale of essence as it were, for Maximus, humanity and divinity considered in their essence really are essentially opposites.
