The Italian Reformation endured persecution from the very start. For 400 years until Vatican II, it was illegal to read scripture in the vernacular. Pietro Caronasecki was a Florentine noble who preached the gospel and the Inquisition caught up with him. And so I think the lesson they have to teach us is how to trust God in the crucible.
