Dostoevsky and the Russian Language

I used to love Dostoevsky when I was in college, but reread him again recently and didn't like him at all. He's too melodramatic for me; never liked writers like Stendall or Float There. It's interesting to think about a national consciousness or identity as it applies to a national literature. Yes, I love English works. Do you? Dickens? No, I love the Christmas Carol night. And I think great expectations is a great, great work.
