He was instead arguing in favor of a concept in vogue at the time called diffusionism. The bad part is that voltaire focuses a lot on the jews and specificaly them as stealing their culture from older cultures rather than inventing anything of their own. Particularly nots, the idea a focuss a lot. It's like a huge thing. But anyway, whatever.
