Introduction

On this, the 12th of May in 1521, Bishop John Fisher gave a two-hour sermon against Luther at St. Paul's Cathedral. Cardinal Wollsey took Luther's writings and publicly burning them in front of all present, including papal representatives. King Henry VIII wrote perhaps with some help from Thomas Moore, The Defense of the Seven Sacraments Against Martin Luther. Later this same year, Henry VIII would actually be named Defender of the Faith by the Pope.
