#27.2 - The Nature of Knowledge, with Brett Hall

Do Explain with Christofer Lövgren

CHAPTER

What Is Free Will?

No human has direct access to their own thoughts either. It is important to invoke free will as an explanation of people's behaviour. But that doesn't mean we need to be retributive when they make a mistake. We can also give up, importantly, this notion of retributive justice. This is indeed a more compassionate way to accept that other people have free will and sometimes they'll make the mistake of focusing their attention on the wrong things. As papa says, we can all make mistakes, terrible moral mistakes at times. Excepting that in accepting that moral framework and that way of viewing a human being and their culpability, we can then also have compassion for them.
