Is There a Committee Member That Can't Answer That Question
As a committee member, one thing that you can do is pay attention to when your colleagues are doing those weird, micerogretid things and call them out. Maybe committees can consider cutting down the number of documents required at the first stage rite. For job applications, people are requiring like, writing samples, sample syllabi. Write just like, why? Why are you asking for not acceptable mater? It's not acceptable. And i'm sure the candidate would appreciate that as well.
