The History of Danjie, Taiwan

The Spanish arrived in Danjie on August 8, 1628. The fort the Spanish built was not what is seen today. It was a small wooden fort reflecting a half-hearted Spanish effort. Jilong would hold out for another five years until the Dutch arrived. They called it Fort Antonio, named after Anthony Van Dieman who was the governor general of the Dutch East Indies.
