The War Between NATO and Serbia
Kosovo was not supposed to have any sort of legitimate or legal claim to independence. Albanians were perceived as an oppressed minority that was just looking for its democratic rights and Serbs were perceived as oppressive majority. The process dragged on until 2008 when Kosovo Albanian assembly declared independence, which was then promptly supported by most of the Western countries.
