Prison Riots - The First Day of the Takeover
The New Mexico State Prison Riot of 1980, one of the most notorious in U.S. history, began when a group of inmates overpowered four guards. The riot ended with 33 deaths and over 200 injuries, and what researchers would later call an orgy of violence. A guard was hit over the head with a mop handle right at the beginning,.
