We often can't see the truth without hearing it from the Holy Spirit. renouncing is critical because if we've given an ascent of our will, we need to break or renounce that ascent of the will. Jesus doesn't get mad if he doesn't get to be the center of attention. That's a false impression of Jesus. He is like the great family member, brother, and the father who rejoices when the family's getting all the attention.
