Banks are willing to pay whatever is necessary to keep the top talent ming into their industry and retain them. But also different industries like tech or consulting that also pay pretty well, but maybe aren't associated with the hours. Russia has done a lot of work to reduce its entwined in the global financial system as it was before 20 14. Western powers have been warning of more economic sanctions, but it's not clear if they would work. Our moscow bureau chief, max settan, spoke about how russias been working to insulate itself against prohibitive western sanctions.

A US Senate committee will begin debating a pair of bills designed to reshape technology regulation, and US banks are gearing up for interest rate rises planned by the Federal Reserve this year.
