The History of Wheelchairs
The first wheelchair, believe it or not, was discovered on a Chinese sarcophagus. King Felipe II of Spain had gout and used a very plush chair with a cushioned arm and leg rest. A man who lived in Bath invented the bath chair which looks like a cross between a lawn chair and a sleigh. The design for Rory's 80-pound wheelchair first came out in the 1930s because it could fold.
