The Incandescent Lamp Case
In the 19th century, gas lamps helped illuminate streets and supplemented candles inside homes. Thomas Edison's incandescent lamp infringed on a patent for bamboo because it made use of a fibrous material covered by the patent. The court said that if an inventor claims a lot, but enables only a little, the public does not receive its benefit of the bargain.
