Psychologist Barbara Frederickson says positive emotions don't act the way they're supposed to. In psychology, an emotion like fear almost always predicts what how a person will behave. But with positive emotions we don't do that and this notion of self-transcendent positive emotions show up because these things get us beyond ourselves.
