Eleanor Ostrom's the Tragic of the Commons

Eleanor Ostrom was a political scientist by training. She won the Nobel Prize in economics for her work on how groups of people can successfully manage and maintain shared resources without markets or governments. The tragedy of the commons suggests that managing resources as a commons doesn't work because everyone is self-interested. But what actually matters is how good our design principles are, how well-organized we are in managing the commons.
