The Bias in Discovering Larger Gas Planets

There is a general bias towards discovering larger gas planets, like Jupiter. The nearest known exoplanet is 4.2 light years from the solar system. One in five or so of the sunlight stars that have been observed have an Earth-like planet somewhere in its habitable zone. Why haven't we seen alien life yet?
