The Life of William Brody
As a teen, William Brody was obsessed with the play The Beggars Opera. As he grew into adulthood, he took on more and more of that persona. In early 1788, he began planning an armed burglary of his Majesty's excise office. He had five children by two separate mistresses - all without either of the women knowing that the other existed. A crowd of over 40,000 curious onlookers gathered to watch him be hanged in Edinburgh.
