CHAPTER

The Economic Valuation of Life

Sally Kohn: Many of us are going to exist in a bunch of these categories throughout our life, whether we're temporarily unemployed, long term unemployed, disabled, retired, etc. And all of these things are sort of defined relative to people's values as workers. She says that is really fundamentally what underlies the economic valuation of life, which is a very key tenant of liberalism. Kohn: We cannot actually create a kind of liberatory way of giving people access to resources without undoing this fundamental relationship between how we value population and who gets to be a part of it.
