There's an idea that these kids are obsessed with about what performance means both as a performer and of state. Bo Burnham I think you will admit is not like a vaudevillian classic performer like one of the great performers of our time. He uses the fact that he is actually emotional to then sell the joke that he's pretending to be emotional. If you want to think but you most part are just there freaking having the time of your life.
