The Sufferings of Our Lord

In Jesus' day, there was a law that said you couldn't be whipped more than 39 times. The problem is we are 2,000 years removed. We don't know what these things were like. After how many times the whip hits your back and tears out your flesh, at what point do you call down the angels? Enough of this suffering.
