Is There a Strategy at Play?
The idea of an enemy was very useful and important to allowing america to project its power throughout the world. The cold war enemy was very central to organizing, you know, a very comprehensive global strategy responding to what were seen as communist insurgencies with various kinds of counter force all over the world. And so when that enemy disappears at the end of cald war there is a casting about to find a new enemy. So i think that that's definitely a part of the story here of the kind of the need to continually generate new enemyes, You know, new figures of nemesis.
