The Importance of Language in American Life
Even in Armenia, within Armenian, there's kind of formal Armenian and vernacular Armenian that we switch, slip it in and out of on like a minute by minute basis. There's so many cues you're using, and it has to do with class, it have to do with education, it has toDo with age and social status. So I don't know, that's always something I think about, and kind of I'm struck by both in how normative it is in some parts of the world, and how exoticized or marked it is here.
