The Importance of Community in Disagreement
In my youth, I thought that agreement was aspirationally where you wanted to land and necessary in order to be in community with people. When you're just congregated around similarity, there's an intolerance for internal difference. There's a tendency to become more extreme to other those who are not included within the circle. So one of the questions that I was grappling with is where are we at our best? And I think a part of that is when we are in community with those with whom we disagree.
