What Happens When the King Is Neutralized?
During the putney debates, you see people of different classes sort of struggling over what parliament should do next. The conversation ends up being cut short because king charles escaped from the manor house where he was being held and manages to flee secretiely to the isle of wight. And so now, in a way, the it seems as if the civil war might re start. So this whole process gets blown up, and in january 16, forty nine, oliver cromwell seizes control of parliament. He then declares a free commonwealth, which is a sort of republic or self governing state without a king.
