The Use of in Between Spaces in a School
The design of australian outdoor school environments largely support formal games such as basket ball, handball and syce. And these traditional rule barn games and formal sports are mainly boys popular ways to socialize. In between spaces are areas of a school or playground that are not formarly designed as part of a space, but which children value as a place to play. Think patricia in her hole in the fence, or hannah in her area between the trees and the fence. Or even under the stairs, yes?
