If there was no Faraday, when would we have discovered all this? Where others chasing his tail, do you think? I think the experiments would have probably been done later, maybe how much later it's hard to say. He went down that very anti-materialist interpretation of the world because of his belief about the nature of the universe. It's absolutely fundamental. And I don't think that would have been done by anybody else anytime soon.
