The History of Friar Bacon

There is a 16th century prose romance titled The Famous History of Friar Bacon. It tells of Bacon trying to give a replica of a human head speech and having to call in the devil for help. Other versions of this tale describe it as an artificial head given life by demons. There's no indication that anything like this even created purely through technology or satanic wizardry was part of Bacon's world.
