Herodotus, Cidides and Machiavelli all wrote about the Peloponnesian War. The themes of their works are similar: glory must not be forgotten; why was Rome so great? And there's a third reason for writing history is he wants the causes of the war to be known. "We really ought to learn from these guys," says David Frum.
