Is It Really Meaningless?
In any given year, obviously, it can be absolutely meaningless. You'll have these huge unrealized gains and unrealized losses that don't really mean anything for the business. And in the same way, if business business or stock prices go up a lot in one year, again, it can be meaningless. But over the long term, you kind of do want to realize the gains of their investments,. bause it's a big part of their business.
