The Uncanny Valley
Charles Dickens used the phrase eel like or clammy to describe someone who gave him the creeps. Ernst Jynch wrote an essay in 1906 called On the Psychology of the Uncanny. He was probably the first person to actually sit down and study the creeps or creepiness. The German word he used is und Heimlich.
