Is There a Pilot Shortage?

Pilot shortages have been looming for years, but the industry has not addressed it because pilot unions have consistently denied we have a shortage. The 15 hundred hour rule was detrimental to safety, according to the flight safety foundation in studies. We cannot spend our way out of the pilot shortage with bonuses or higher pay - that only poaches pilots who are already qualified. Creating a pilot shortage has seriously backfired because it has stunted the growth of revenues and networks of major airlines. There are not enough white males to fill the ranks we need.
