I'm not sure whether this mother, probably because of her depression, is really able to value her daughters as the one thing she's done right in her life. If that was really true why can't the mother get it together for herself which would really be the kind of thing she could do for her daughters. I think people really do get into parasitic kinds of relationships and when they're disappointed with their own lives sort of take advantage of a beautiful child in this way.
