Hesiod and Percy's - The Beginning of Works and Days
Hesiod's works and days is one of the most prominent works of ancient literature, but structurally speaking it's very unusual. It's a rambling, grouchy diatribe which deprecates Percy's again and again while simultaneously trying to communicate some core messages. Like life is difficult, we must all work hard and the same overarching gods and seasons rule over all of our lives. Even when Hesiod tells timeless stories of gods and heroes, he retains the same poetic personality. You feel like you're listening to a neighbor over the fence spinning a yarn more than a religious narrative.
