Lust is not going to be a lasting basis of a good relationship. You need to actually know each other, like each other, connect intellectually. Back then they saw lust as dangerous because it could get out of control. They needed part of this culture of sensibility at the time that you were supposed to have strong feelings, but you were supposedto be able to control them.
