The Importance of Patient-Oriented Outcomes
There have been two notable North American studies in cardiac arrest. In the patients given bicarb, they found no increase in ROSC or survival with good neurologic outcome. The next time I'm in a recess room with an arrest that's of unclear etiology, and someone asks me if I want to give an amp of Bicarb, I'm going to say no.
