Are Reference Checks Worth It?

You need to stack the deck in your favor and be more intentional about who you ask the candidate to speak with. You should never talk to references that worked with a candidate more than three years ago. It's worth asking ourselves, is it even worth it, just because this thing has always been done? My short answer is, i do believe reference checks are worth it.
