Some scientists have suggested that a gamma ray burst was the cause of the late Orvissian mass extinction event 443 million years ago. Off-world colonies on Mars or the Moon might recover faster, being already self-contained dome habitats with an industry and cultural built around them. I can definitely imagine lots of raft cities with big sea farms like we contemplated in our sea studying and colonizing the ocean episodes. But only a fairly narrow and improbable range of events would be likely cause just the right amount of equals for your damage for that future.
