The Tension Between Thatcher and Disraeli
There is a tension in Thatcher between her belief in abstract ideas of free markets and liberty and being a Cold War warrior. The Conservative Party under Thatcher didn't just win because it appealed either to the language of values in the Cold War. It was patriotic in a way, but also had a material programme that went hand in hand with an idea of what a cross-class coalition for the Conservative Party could be.
